Had a cool day today. Went and visited a friend and played in her new arena. Meg had a great time and so did I. I even got to ride a proper western horse - wow, could be converted!!! Meg gave clydie rides and has a couple of new fans - go my Megalicious Megalumpty.
Fairly average ride today but got some video footage which I will share anyway. We're working on our canter transitions and getting forward and maintaining our canter plus a bit of self carriage as Meg can be a bit heavy in the hand. Also trying to do a tiny bit of lateral work at walk. She kinda has it and kinda doesn't but it's probably more because of the rider than because of her.
I need eyes on the ground though - so many issues that I can see in the photos and video and need someone who will haul my sorry ass over the coals for them and beat me to within an inch of my life, or something like that anyway. We're both overweight and unfit so run out of puff quick too. You will see at one point in the video, if you get that far, that I have to stop and suck on my inhaler too, haha! The change of seasons plays havoc with my asthma but being unfit doesn't help either. Anyway, here's the video. Enjoy (and don't laugh too loud, ok!)
My timing today was pretty rubbish as no sooner had I caught and saddled Meg up than the heaven's opened and down came the rain. I am not talking a bit of drizzle either - there was a bonafide cloud burst! But, it settled a bit and 'Sod it' I thought, 'I am out here anyway, so I shall ride!'. And, ride I did :)
I really need some goals but it is hard because I just can't afford to compete at the moment and finding extra cash for lessons or even to put enough diesel in the truck to go places is also very difficult but I really need something to work towards in my riding and with Meg. I also lack a lot of confidence and she lacks a lot of experience so together we're a bit of a potential for disaster but I really want to achieve more with my riding and my horses. I am going to have to start thinking outside the box I think. If anyone has any ideas, sing out!
