This weekend I travelled over to Wellington to see Reilly and Kimmi compete at the Wellington Autumn One Day Horse Trial at Queen Elizabeth II Park in Paekakariki. This was their third eventing start for the season and third start at the CNC80 level. Because of their previous results this season (a 1st and a 2nd) they were sitting nicely in line for a possible placing in the Zilco Tri Series (I didn't realise this).
I couldn't be there for the dressage but it sounds like they did a nice test. Kim lost her way briefly so there was a wee course error meaning a 2 point deduction but they were still in the running and sitting 5th after dressage. A nice clear round in the Show Jumping pulled them up to 4th. The CNC80 was one of the last classes to run XC so it was a long day and I would be lying if I didn't admit to having a few butterflies by the time they were in the start gates ready to roll but these were unfounded as they just flew the cross country, Reilly even doing his very first corner out on course (something they have never attempted before) - I'm a proud other Mother! Their run across the country was enough to pull them up another place to 3rd meaning that they've yet to compete at a Horse Trial or One Day Event and be out of the top three placings in their entire eventing career! That's a pretty good record huh. This season's effort saw them take home the Zilco Tri Series Reserve Champion rosette too. What a team! I think they have one more ODE this season and then I believe Kim is hoping to take him up a level next season. Exciting!
The photos are a bit muddled order wise but for some reason blogger wanted to order them this way and I can't be bothered messing around with that. So, here they are:
